About Firestar
Founded in 2008 in Ontario, Canada, and now serving the U.S., Fire Star USA brings over 17 years of proven experience in delivering high-quality, hands-on firefighter training. Our founder, Mark van der Feyst, built Fire Star around one principle: training should come to you. Instead of requiring departments to travel to distant training centers or enroll in expensive programs, we deliver custom-tailored training on your own grounds, using the facilities, equipment, and resources you already have. This ensures that every drill feels real, relevant, and directly applicable to your department’s needs. We stand by our motto: “practice like we play.” Our instructors each bring more than 20 years of experience, blending time-tested fireground strategies with innovative new methods for firefighting and rescue operations. From live-fire evolutions to technical rescue and hazmat response, every course is designed to prepare your crews for the exact challenges they will face in the field.
Safety Record
One of the things that sets Fire Star USA apart is our unmatched safety record. In more than 17 years of delivering live, hands-on training programs, we have never experienced a major injury, accident, or incident that caused training to be stopped. This is exceptionally uncommon in our industry. Many training organizations, even well-established ones, have faced serious injuries or worse during live-fire scenarios, rescue drills, or high-risk exercises. Fire Star USA’s ability to maintain a perfect record of no loss of life, no loss of limb, and no training days cut short is a direct result of our approach:
- Strict safety protocols that are enforced at every level
 - Experienced instructors who actively monitor and adjust scenarios in real time
 - Thoughtful class sizes and scenario designs that maximize realism without unnecessary risk
 - A culture of safety where both students and instructors share responsibility for looking out for one another

This track record is more than just a statistic, it’s proof of our philosophy: the best training is safe training. When firefighters leave our courses, they walk away with the skills they need, the confidence to apply them, and the assurance that their safety is respected every step of the way.
At Fire Star USA, we are proud to provide the highest-quality, safest, and most accessible firefighter training to departments of every size, career and volunteer alike.
